Leptospirosis (Weil’s Disease)

Leptospirosis (Weil’s Disease)

Recently in our practice, we have had a severe case of this deadly disease.  It is caused by an organism which lives in the environment in the urine of small mammalian wildlife and dogs. If a dog suffers from this disease, it badly affects the liver and kidneys and can be fatal.  Treatment is long and may not be effective and is always expensive,

This disease is transmissable to humans.  We call it Weil’s Disease.  Children are particularly vulnerable.

Fortunately, your pet can avoid this simply by being vaccinated.  Ring the practice to ask about your dog’s vaccination needs.  If you have asked us to send a reminder, we will do so, either by email or “snail” mail, as requested.
